This is according to the rankings released by the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy.

The second and third spot goes to the Toyota Prius and the Honda Civic hybrids. The Toyota Prius is one of the oldest hybrid cars in the market, and it has been able to keep up with the market trends and maintain their level of demand and attachment to their customers. The car is very popular because of its known and tested fuel efficiency and its relatively cheap cost. Despite some hybrid cars being taken a notch lower by the new fuel-economy calculations, hybrid cars have still been able to remain at the top of this list. This is because of their proven fuel economy. Other hybrid vehicles that made it into the top ten lists of the greenest hybrid vehicles include the Nissan Altima hybrid vehicle, and the Toyota Camry hybrid. Analysts also say that the Smart For Two and the Toyota Yaris also fall behind the rankings of the greenest hybrid cars in the market because of the their small passenger capacity and environmental benefits.

The score used to evaluate these vehicles involves the measurement of the level of unhealthy tailpipe emissions, global warming emissions and the fuel consumption. The measure is done on a large number of vehicles including trucks, personal cars, and passenger trucks.

Diesel powered cars were poorly ranked this year because of the high level of environmental damaging oxides of nitrogen and particulate matter that they emit. Despite these cars being popular for their fuel economy, these cars were not able to reach the top ten groups. The trend has been to encourage the use of diesel-powered vehicles. The fact of the matter is that these vehicles are still at the rock bottom of the quality of vehicles in the market with regard to global warming.

At bottom of the list is the diesel powered Volkswagen Touareg. This vehicle is the most environmentally unfriendly vehicle that there is on the roads. This vehicle leads the pack of other environmental polluting vehicles such as the Mercedes Benz and the Jeep Grand Cherokee. Most green car enthusiasts are eagerly waiting for a vehicle that will be able to pass the emission standards in all of the states in America. This feat is yet to be achieved.
